We started brushing our three girls teeth as soon as they first came in. We continued to brush for them until at least age 4 since they never really did a very good job. We would let them start and then finish up after a couple of minutes.
When they first came.... my kids came with teeth LOL I am a foster parent

I used the Gerber baby teeth cleaner you use with your finger when she was a baby and then helped her brush her own teeth when she was a little over a year. Now at 2 1/2 she does it herself although I watch her as she loves to use as much toothpaste as she can!
